Dr. H. Nagesh Prabhu

Dr. H. Nagesh Prabhu is a Senior Officer from the elite Indian Forest Service (I.F.S.) Cadre of Government of India.  He has got the Masters in Agriculture and a Doctorate on Plant Science.  Currently Dr. Nagesh Prabhu also holds the post of Chief Executive Officer in Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.  Central Silk Board (CSB) is the National Agency working for the overall development of sericulture and silk industry in the country. The activities of CSB are; research & development, regulatory authority on seed production, provide leadership for seed production and extension, silk promotion, advising the Union Government for framing and implementing policy requirements, and support and assist Provincial Governments for the development of the industry.

Dr. Prabhu had rendered his services in various Government Departments of Union and Provincial Governments for the last 31 years, mainly focussing on integrating sustainable developmental activities while preserving the natural eco-systems for providing meaningful employment opportunities to the weaker sections of the society, especially women.  A brief narrative of the professional experience of Dr. H. Nagesh Prabhu is given below:-

  1. Officiated as Technical and Administrative Heads in various Departments/ Organizations of Governments;
  2. Conceived and implemented developmental projects for the benefit of rural population including women and marginalised people;
  3. Administered and implemented a World Bank aided project;
  4. Experience of managing bio-diversity rich tropical forest for their eco-system services;
  5. Raising forest nurseries and plantations on large scale to meet the wood requirement of industry and common man;
  6. Disseminated forest research findings for adoption in the field;
  7. As CEO of a Provincial Medical Plantation Board, involved in promotion of medical plant sector;
  8. As MD of a Government owned Ayurvedic Medicine Manufacturing Unit for 5 years, involved in production and supply of quality Ayurvedic medicines to Government hospitals;
  9. As Joint Secretary, Department of Health & Research, Govt. of India coordinated National Health Research Programmes for promoting basic, applied and clinical research in the country
  10. Facilitated capacity building among the stakeholders
